School principal was killed by her husband, say police

Officials say the suspect and his second wife, her brother planned the murder

KARACHI: After less than two weeks, the police claimed on Sunday to have solved the murder of a private school principal who was killed under mysterious circumstances in District East. The police have arrested the victim's husband for killing his own wife.

A private school principal, Ambreen Fatima, was shot dead on December 10 when she and her husband, Ali Hassan, were on their way home in Soldier Bazaar after attending an event with their relatives.

Initially, Hassan had told the police that robbers shot his wife dead when he offered resistance during a robbing bid.

The police later registered a case against unidentified persons and had initiated further investigations to probe the case. Jamshed Division SP Dr Rizwan Ahmed Khan said that the police had remained doubtful since the incident occurred.

During the course of the investigation the police learnt that the incident did not occur when husband resisted a robbery bid and that the victim was murdered by someone else.

The law enforcers began to suspect that Hassan was involved in the murder and later took him into custody. The man confessed to the crime after being interrogated.

Later, the police also arrested the suspect's second wife, Sahar Shams, and her brother Balaaj.

The police revealed that Hassan worked as an administrator at the same school Ambreen was working at as principal while Shams was employed there as a teacher.

Police officials said that Shams and Ambreen were also friends and that Shams and Hassan had gotten married in secret.

The police officials said that the suspects had planned to kill the victim as Balaaj and Shams were pressuring Hassan to make his second marriage public and have the rukhsati done.

According to the police, it has been confirmed that the victim's husband murdered his wife while the others suspects forced him to commit the murder. A case has been registered while further investigation is under way.
