Carbon pricing to spur green energy

The ministry has strengthened engagement with the secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

ISLAMABAD: Putting a price on carbon emissions would help in increasing investments in green energy and reduce the carbon footprint, said Minister for Climate Change Mushahidullah Khan on Thursday. Addressing a workshop on carbon pricing, he said, “The government is cautiously evaluating options to introduce this instrument in a way that our economic pace is not compromised.”



The ministry has strengthened engagement with the secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change through its regional collaboration centre to evaluate the application of the carbon pricing instrument, while providing benefits in terms of mitigation action and for attracting international support for climate action. Nearly 40 countries and more than 20 cities, states and provinces are already participating in or preparing for the carbon pricing.
