Alleged kidnapper embraces Islam in police custody

He added that one of his friends in jail preached him about Islam and he decided to change his religion

MULTAN: A suspect, who was allegedly involved in kidnapping for ransom case, has accepted Islam under police custody at Jahanian police station on Wednesday.

Jahanian Police Station SHO Chauhdry Haq Nawaz told The Express Tribune that 31-year-old Waqas Maseeh has recited Kalima Tayyaba in front of him during investigation and announced that he has accepted Islam. He said the accused also changed his name to Muhammad Waqas.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, Waqas said he was inspired by the true teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH) .

He added that one of his friends in jail preached him about Islam and he decided to change his religion. He maintained that he was born in a Christian family and had a lot of Muslim friends who preached him about Islam from time to time. Therefore, he accepted Islam.

It is alleged that Waqas Maseeh had kidnapped his friend Nasir and accepted Rs3.5 million as ransom from Nasir’s parents two years ago.

Three weeks ago, on the directives of Khanewal DPO Zahid Nawaz Marwat, the police arrested Waqas from Karachi.

After initial investigation, the police declared the accused as innocent.

However, the final verdict will be given by the court and till then he would remain in police custody.
