KARACHI: A science festival is going to be organised in Larkana for the first time. The festival, which will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, will be participated in by students from government primary, middle and high schools as well as private institutions.

The two-day event is being organised by the district government.  Local organisations working on maths and science will also be exhibiting different ways to bridge the gap between curriculum and practical. "During the festival, lectures, workshops and a live demonstration of various experiments will be held," Larkana Commissioner Abbas Baloch said.

Currently, there are only two major science-related festivals happening in Pakistan - the Dawood Foundation's Magnifi-Science event in Karachi and the LUMS Khwarizmi Science Society's Lahore Science Mela.  But Larkana will be the first city outside of the two urban centres to celebrate science by conducting a two-day festival.

"This will not only be a platform for organisations working on science to engage students through fun science and robotics activities, but also for students to showcase their talents to a host of stakeholders," the commissioner said, adding that local students have also prepared various science projects.
