Steel Town Cadet College celebrates 28th Parents’ Day

Education minister assures cooperation and financial support

KARACHI: Minister for Education and Literacy Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Friday described the Steel Town Cadet College as one of the best cadet colleges in the country and promised all possible cooperation and support for it, including seeking a financial grant from Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The college was established in 1982 by Pakistan Steel and has earned a respected name over the years, but recently the college has been facing financial problems. Speaking at the 28th Parents’ Day ceremony, Dahar said the college is a source of quality education and trainings for students.

Dahar also appreciated the demonstration of extra-curricular activities by the students. He acknowledged the hard work of the teachers under the guidance of Principal Dr Abdul Rehman Jiskani and encouraged them to continue with the same spirit as they are the building blocks of the nation.



More than 500 students from various areas of the country study at the college. Dahar said the government is making efforts to promote literacy and high-quality education in Sindh, which is the only province in the country providing free-of-cost education from primary to higher secondary level.

He said all 5,500 schools in Sindh are being upgraded to model schools after the provision of the required facilities. In response to a question from the media, Dahar said the protest organised by teachers was not justified, instead they should initiate a dialogue for the resolution of their issues.

Dr Jiskani said that the students’ performance, among the cadet colleges in the recent annual matriculation and intermediate examinations, was the best. He added that in various sports competitions, the college also came first against the other cadet colleges in Sindh.
