ISLAMABAD: National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has underscored the need for increasing bilateral trade between Germany and Pakistan, suggesting Pakistani industries can greatly benefit from German technological advancements.

“A growing middle class in Pakistan offers a great potential to foreign investors here,” he said while expressing his views at the inauguration of the newly established office and showroom of BSH Hausgeräte GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of Robert Bosch GmbH Germany.

Population growth issues to be discussed at 3-day conference

This is its second official products showroom in Pakistan. BSH Home Appliances has established its showrooms and offices in association with local business partner Mega Home Appliances. BSH Home Appliances aims to expand its sales and distribution footprint in Pakistan and is working to widen its retailer and distributor network across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, BSH Home Appliances CEO Tomas Alonso pointed out that German companies considered Pakistan a preferred destination for trade and business and Pakistani market offered immense potential of trade between the two countries.

“Pakistan is now one of the region’s emerging economies. With annual population growth of more than 2%, Pakistan has one of the highest growth rates in Asia,” said Alonso, who is in charge of the Middle Eastern and South Asian region.

Speaking to media, he said “We are targeting to become the number one home appliances supplier in Pakistan.”

Empower women for rapid economic growth

“In a country like Pakistan, which has been facing power shortages, it is imperative that … daily-use household appliances such as refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, etc consume less energy to save power,” he said.

In a low-inflation high-growth economy like Pakistan, according to Alonso, there is a growing affluent consumer base, which is forecast to increase around 6% annually. Both factors were having an overall positive effect on the local purchasing power, he said.
