Reflecting state of human rights

Letter December 15, 2017
The government should pay attention to human rights

SUKKUR: The building of the Directorate of the Human Rights in Hyderabad, Sindh, does not only reflect the state of the government offices across the province but also depicts the working of the human rights office in the region. Covered with bushy plants, rusty doors and windows, the worn-out building looks like one where nobody has entered since ages.

Therefore, it becomes easier to understand why human rights violation cases are being mostly looked after by non-governmental organisations working in the province. Due to the hierarchical and procedural hurdles the directorate office remains out of the reach of victims.

The government should pay attention to human rights as well as to the upkeep of offices relating to human rights.
