Well done Balochistan

Letter December 14, 2017
Will the other three provinces learn a lesson from Balochistan and follow its suit?

KARACHI: As a citizen responsible for preservation of environment and wild life, the bold and wise decision of the Balochistan government to ban all forms of hunting in the province is highly admirable. The Balochistan government has asked the federal government not to issue hunting permits, including permits for hunting of the Houbara bustards.

The Balochistan cabinet has also instructed all the 34 deputy commissioners of the province to ensure that no hunting takes place in their respective districts.

Will the other three provinces learn a lesson from Balochistan and follow its suit? Getting rare and precious animals and birds’ breeds killed purely to extend courtesy of good relations to a few foreign dignitaries is detrimental to the natural habitat and the biodiversity which direly needs to be preserved. It is also a request to the Pakistani Foreign Office to reconsider its “hunting is a pillar of our foreign policy” stance and work upon more rational policy options, imperative to national interests.
