Delaying FATA reforms

Letter December 13, 2017
In yet another thoughtless move, the PML-N government removed Fata reforms from the agenda

ISLAMABAD: In yet another thoughtless move, the PML-N government removed Fata reforms from the agenda of the discussion during the last session of the National Assembly, which sparked outrage from other parliamentarians. The said session of the legislature was initially conducted to discuss reforms and their implementation. The already prolonged delay over Fata has earned the PML-N enough of ire of the region’s locals and other political stakeholders, yet with the withdrawal of Fata reforms from the agenda of the house, the PML-N has only added more to its plethora of problems.

Worst is the government giving technical issues as the reason for the withdrawal and not bringing forward the actual reasons, hence shrouding the matter with uncertainty and suspicion. Given the mounting political tension the PML-N is currently passing through, it is important that it gains the support of other political parties and not engage in decisions that go against the wishes of the majority.
