Amber Heard has come forward to express her concern over the casting of Johnny Depp in JK Rowling's Fantastic Beasts 2. Fans have questioned Depp's role in the film due to his alleged history of domestic abuse, reported Popsugar.

Heard stated that Rowling and Warner Bros. had misinterpreted the statement released by the duo after they split in 2016. "To pick and choose certain lines and quote them out of context, is just not right. Women continue to stand up and stay strong," Heard posted on her Instagram.

The Justine League actor and Depp were linked back in 2012 and tied the knot in a secret ceremony in 2015. Heard filed for divorce in 2016 citing irreconcilable differences, followed by a domestic violence restraining order supported by photos of her bruised face.

Depp denied abusing his ex-wife and the divorce was finalised in early 2017. The former couple made a joint statement acknowledging that their relationship was "at times volatile, but always bound by love." Heard also withdrew the restraining order against the 54-year-old actor.

After opening up about her domestic violence experience, Heard has encouraged other women to speak up. In the December 2016 of Porter magazine, Heard wrote, "When a woman comes forward to speak out about injustice or her suffering, instead of aid, respect and support, she will be met with hostility, skepticism and shame. Her motives will be questioned and her truth ignored."

She also promised the survivors of domestic abuse, stating that they may have suffered alone behind closed doors, but they're not alone.
