ISLAMABAD:

Four members of a family were injured early Monday morning in a blast allegedly caused by gas leakage from a cylinder.

The blast occurred when a matchstick was lit at 8:00am at a house in the Dhoki Jilani area of Islamabad. No major damage has been reported at the house.

While the mother and son received minor wounds, the 36-year-old father and two-year-old daughter are undergoing treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

Cylinder blast leaves one dead in Bari Imam

A number of incidents caused due to low quality LPG cylinders have been reported recently. Owing to shortage of regular gas supply in  winter, people are forced to use LPG for heating and cooking.

In September this year, at least one man was killed while five others, including three children, were critically injured when LPG cylinders exploded in a decanting shop in a suburb of the capital.

LPG leaking from the cylinders had accumulated in the Bari Imam cylinder store. When the shopkeeper switched on a fan for ventilation, it caused sparks which explosively combusted the volatile gas. The resulting blast damaged the store and an adjoining house where 65-year-old Mohammad Arif was living with his family. Another house in the neighbourhood was also damaged by the blast where three members of another family also suffered burn injuries.
