Lalazar Tulsa Road Residents lament CCB’s negligence in laying sewerage lines

Say the contractor has stopped working over the past week

RAWALPINDI: Angry residents of Lalazar Tulsa Road and its adjoining areas have decried the unjustified delay in laying sewerage pipelines, street and development projects in the Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB).

Ijaz an irate resident of the area said that streets in the area had been dug up to lay sewerage pipelines and other development work nearly a month ago.

However, to the utter dismay of residents, the project has yet to be completed.

The residents complained about the slow pace of development work and the lack of basic amenities such as streetlights in the area.

Altaf, another resident, said that over the past 30 days only the sewerage pipelines have been laid. However, the contractor has now stopped working for several days. This, he pointed out, was causing great inconvenience to the residents.

Noting that the road was overburdened, he said that every day during the rush hours, there was bumper-to-bumper traffic on it since part of it is inaccessible because of the project.

Altaf added that they had met with CCB officials to ask when would the project be completed. However, he said that they did not receive any positive response from the official.

The residents complained that there are open manholes in the area which not only pose a hazard for commuters on the roads at night but also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes — and the hub of diseases such as dengue.

They demanded that the relevant department take immediate remedial steps since the contractor left the work incomplete.

Some locals had levelled the ground in front of their homes on their own, they said, but it barely offered some respite.

“In areas where there were no houses, the roads were lying unattended, creating problems for the residents and commuters,” said Majid, another resident.

Meanwhile, the residents of street one and four also demanded that the authority repair street lights which are going out of order.
