SC upholds regularisation of PSO employees’ services

Apex court orders company to pay salaries, other incentives according to service rules

KARACHI: Upholding the regularisation of 208 employees of Pakistan State Oil (PSO), the Supreme Court (SC) ordered on Friday PSO to pay salaries and other incentives to them according to service rules.

A three-judge bench dismissed an appeal filed by PSO challenging the Sindh High Court’s decision to regularise the services of 208 employees.

The employees informed the apex court that they were appointed on various posts on contractual basis in 1984. They mentioned that the Sindh High Court had later ordered the PSO management to regularise their services.

Challenging the high court’s judgment, PSO’s lawyer insisted that the petitioners were appointed on contractual basis, therefore, their jobs could not be regularised.



Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar told the officers that in a democratic system, citizens are not made to run from pillar to post for their rights.

“The Constitution guarantees fundamental rights to citizens. Therefore, the same [rights] should be enforced completely as well,” the CJP remarked.

Dismissing the appeal, the judges directed the PSO management to regularise the services of the petitioners from 2013. They further ordered them to pay salaries, pension and other incentives to the employees accordingly.
