PESHAWAR: US President Donald Trump’s issuance of a proclamation to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is drawing ire from all corners of the Muslim world, especially Pakistan.

A lawmaker of Pakistan Peoples Party Sardar Fakhr Azam Khan submitted a resolution in the Khyber-Paktunkhwa Assembly Secretariat against the US president’s decision.

Separately, the Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) held a rally against the decision asking the Muslim countries to end diplomatic relations with Israel and America.

According to details, the PPP lawmaker asked the federal government to make efforts for calling an Islamic Summit to unite the Muslim world and raise voice to pressure the US government to reverse its decision.

Khan criticised the decision in his written resolution submitted to the assembly secretariat on Thursday.

He stated that this step of Trump has affected the sentiments of the Muslim world as they have rejected the decision straightaway.

“Shifting US Embassy to Jerusalem is sabotaging the internal community’s consensus. It is like supporting the policy of fight, conquer and rule,” the resolution stated, requesting the Pakistan government to call an Islamic Summit to raise joint voice against it.

On the other hand, leaders and activists of various religious parties and organisations held a rally outside the Peshawar Press Club in a fit of rage against the decision.

Leaders and activists of Jamaatud Dawa, Milli Muslim League, DPC and Al-Muhammadia Students Pakistan took part in the rally and torched US and Israel flags. They were holding banners and placards bearing slogans against the US and Israel.

In his speech, DPC leader Ghazi Inamullah said Israel has occupied Baitul Muqaddas (Jerusalem) and it is the obligation of Muslims to get it released from Israel’s occupation.

“The United Nations is a silent spectator over Israel’s occupation of Baitul Muqaddas which is the first Qibla of Muslims. It is our responsibility and obligation to release it from the occupation of Israel.”

Another DPC leader Hafiz Samiullah said all Muslim countries should cut ties and diplomatic relations with the US and Israel.

“This step of Donald Trump clearly reflects his evil mind against Islam and the Muslim world,” Jamaatud Dawa Peshawar district chief Yawar Aftab said while addressing the participants of the rally.

“Israel calls Jerusalem its capital and America is recognising it. This decision of America will plunge the whole Central Asia into battle.”
