HYDERABAD: A prisoner attending a hearing in the Hyderabad district and sessions court was shot and injured in an armed attack exposing lax security in the court. The prisoner, Muharram Ali Jamali, who was booked in a murder case registered in January, 2016, sustained two gunshots while the assailants escaped.

Talking to the media, Hyderabad SSP Peer Muhammad Shah wondered how a weapon was brought inside the court's premises. The perpetrator was not even captured by the closed-circuit television cameras and broke multiple security layers during his entry and exit.

The SSP suspended the court's security incharge, Inspector Salman Shahani, assistant sub-inspectors Fateh Mohammed Majeedano and Khalil Ahmed Sheedi, and Constable Yousuf Jakhrani for negligence in duty.

Jamali was rushed to Liaquat University Hospital where a timely surgery saved his life. According to the SSP, the prisoner had identified the attackers and the police were after them. The police sources revealed that the names of the suspects were Lal Bux and Yaar Muhammad.

The prisoner is a resident of the Sehrish Nagar area in Qasimabad, Hyderabad. According to the FIR, he has been accused of killing a man, Shafi Muhammad, in the Husri locality.
