Today marks the first death anniversary of the national icon Junaid Jamshed, popularly remembered as JJ, who passed away in a tragic plane crash while on his way back from Chitral to Islamabad.
Soon after, heartfelt tributes started pouring in globally for the late singer. We look back at some of the most emotional tributes paid to the Aietbar singer:
1. Junaid Jamshed’s son’s teary eyed tribute to his father:
Babar Junaid recently shared his feelings in a heart-touching song, titled Meray Baba. However, this is not the first time his son has paid a tribute to his father. Previously, Babar’s rendition of one of JJ’s most famous naats, Ilahe Teri Chaukhat left us teary-eyed.
2. Us Rah Par by Coke Studio:
Ali Hamza and Ali Zafar’s take on JJ’s famous Us Rah Par was soulful and we are still in an absolute awe.
The song also marked the comeback of Strings and we have to confess, that we definitely missed Bilal Maqsood’s tranquil voice. Written by the master himself, Shoaib Mansoor, the song never fails to give you goosebumps.
Junoon guitarist Salman Ahmed – along with the Salman and Samina Global Wellness Initiative (SSGWI) – has compiled a short film featuring the late singer, in honour of his first death anniversary.
Salman shared a link to Ansoo: A Celebration of the Life and Times of a Vital Sign himself on Wednesday, on his personal Twitter account. “Junoonis, due to popular demand on social media and Vital Signs and Junoon fans’ love, Ansoo will be released today,” he posted. “It will give us one whole week to celebrate the life and times of JJ. Stay tuned to this space.”
4. Salman Ahmed’s tribute to JJ:
This year at Hum Style Awards, Junoon’s lead guitarist along with JJ’s sons, paid an emotional tribute to the singer with some of the unseen pictures of his professional and personal life.
5. Atif Aslam singing Us Rah Par:
The Jalpari singer paid a tribute to the late singer at Lux Style Awards this year and it’s our absolute favourite! Atif did a rendition of Us Rah Par that still gives us goosebumps.
6: Shahi Hasan’s tribute to former band member:
JJ’s Vital Signs band member, Shahi Hasan also paid a tribute to the Sanwli Saloni singer in the one of the episodes of Battle of the Bands, and delivered a stellar performance on one of the band’s songs Namumkin.
