LAHORE: The opposition benches demanded resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as well as Law Minister Rana Sanaullah in connection with Justice Baqar Najafi’s report which revealed their role into the Model Town massacre.

Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI)’s legislator Murad Rass demanded the resignation of the provincial law minister through his resolution he submitted in the Punjab Assembly.

He contended that the government’s responsibility was to protect the lives of innocent people rather than hatching a plot of massacre in which more than a dozen people were killed and several injured.

He implored that Justice Najafi’s report revealed that the plot to launch Model Town operation was made under the supervision of Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.

He claimed that the higher authorities were involved in hatching the plot. He said the government’s operation developed an element of dissatisfaction amongst people which was regrettable.

Meanwhile, another resolution was submitted by PTI woman legislator Nabila Hakim Ali Khan demanding the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

She said the CM was not given a clean chit in the light of Justice Najafi’s report which revealed that the police opened  fire on innocent people during the Model Town operation but the chief minister did nothing.

She said the report further reveled that when the people were being killed, the CM neither interfered nor did he order to the police high-ups to stop fire.

She said the CM’s role of not passing orders to stopping police firing meant he was equally involved in the killings.

She demanded that the CM should resign after the model town report was made public which established their role.
