SHABQADAR: Political administration in Mohmand on Tuesday held a jirga of tribal elders to urge them to support the government efforts at eliminating the scourge of terrorism from the tribal areas.

The jirga of tribal elders from Utman Khel Ambar tribe was held at the lower sub division Ekka Ghund in the wake of recent terror attacks in the agency. Last week, a pro-government tribal elder Malik Amir Rehman was targeted at Ambar area through an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at the roadside.

Rehman had survived the attack but his vehicle, driven by his nephew, was damaged. In a subsequent search operation, security forces had arrested 13 people under the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR).

A security forces official was also killed on December 2 in Chamarkand area of Upper Mohmand in a series of IED attacks. Later, the administration had imposed a curfew in the area.

In view of the recent attacks, Lower Mohmand Agency’s Assistant Political Agent Naveed Akbar Khan on Tuesday summoned tribal elders and urged them to hand over the suspects. He also called on them to fulfill their territorial responsibility, by not allowing anti-state elements to sabotage peace of the agency.
