KARACHI: A young girl was stabbed to death, while her elder sister was injured when they offered resistance during a burglary bid, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place inside the victims' house located at C Area in Malir within the limits of the Saudabad police station. The deceased was identified as 16-year-old Alina, daughter of Nadeem, while her elder sister as Alvina, 20.

Police officials, quoting the Alvina's statement, said that at least two armed men entered their house and started looting gold ornaments and other valuables, adding that her younger sister first offered resistance to the men, holding a knife.

Alvina told the police that the suspects snatched the knife from her sister and stabbed her to death, adding that the armed men later also attacked her [Alvina] with the knife when she attempted to save her sister.

Police officials said that the victims' parents and two brothers were not at home when the incident took place.

Upon hue and cry, scores of neighbours gathered at the spot, however, the suspects managed to escape. The neighbours saw the sisters lying in a pool of blood and called the police and ambulance service.

The ambulances shifted the victims to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared one of the victims dead. Police officials said that the girls' father recently received some money from inheritance.

Police officials said that apparently the incident occurred over offering resistance in a robbery bid, however, the case is being investigated from different angles.

A large number of family members, relatives and neighbouring people also staged a protest over the incident and demanded the police to arrest the culprits immediately.
