7 life lessons we learned from Shashi Kapoor's iconic films

Shashi Kapoor is a name that will be remembered for ages to come. After a prolonged illness, the younger brother of Raj and Shammi Kapoor passed away on Monday at age 79, reported News Nation.

Marking his debut in 1961 with Dharamputra, the actor went on to star in over a 100 Bollywood films and was one of the first actors from India to go international.

Known as the silent romantic hero, Shashi has left behind a rich cinematic legacy for years to come. Here's a list of some iconic dialogues by the late actor that are sure to teach us a few life lessons.

1. Mere paas maa hai (I've got a mother)

One of the most famous dialogues in the history of Indian cinema was delivered by Shashi. The exchange between him and Amitabh Bachchan in Deewar left fans mesmerised.


2. Yeh prem rog hai. Shuru mein dukh deta hai, baad mein bohot dukh deta hai (It's the wound of love. In the beginning it hurts a lot, but it later it hurts a lot more.)

From the 1982 hit Namak Halal, this dialogue is one to tug on all our heartstrings.

3. Iss dunya mein aadmi insaan ban jaye tau bohot bari baat hai (It's a big deal if a man becomes a human in this world).

Kabhie Kabhie released in 1976. The romantic drama was famous for its cast and the title track.

4. Zyada paise aaye tau neend nahi aati. Neend aaye tau zyada paise nahi aatay (If you get wealth, you're unable to sleep. If you can sleep, you don't get any wealth). 

Shashi also delivered this gem in 1975's Deewar.

5. Khwaab zindagi se kai zyada khoobsurat hote hein (Dreams are more beautiful than life).

Also starring the beautiful Zeenat Aman, Satyam Shivam Sundaram was a romantic film released in 1978.

6. Hum ghayab hone walon mein se nahi (I'm not one to disappear)

Although Shashi only made a special appearance in 1981's Silsila, he surely left his mark with this line for whatever time he was on screen.

7. Apna tau aik hi usool hai. Jeeyo tau apne liye, socho tau doosron ke liye (I only have one rule. Live for yourself, but think of others)

Playing a drunkard in 1981's Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, Shashi shared the screen with Rekha, Zarina Wahab and Vinod Khanna.
