WOW Karachi Festival

Letter December 05, 2017
There is a dire need for such events to take place as the Pakistani society

KARACHI: The second WOW-Karachi, Women of the World Festival concluded on Dec 3rd, after two days of celebration of womanhood and efforts to carve a better narrative towards women in society. The event offered a range of engagements for not just women but men too and genders from different age groups.

The event was also graced by the attendance of many renowned female personalities who achieved success in a male-oriented society. Panel discussions and talk sessions mainly revolved around the perceived prejudices towards men and women in society — how men are expected to appear strong by concealing their emotions to how women are usually considered the weaker gender.

Besides the commendable effort of the event being towards gender neutrality, it offered a range of scrumptious edibles by various eateries alongside musical sessions and an art exhibition. There is a dire need for such events to take place as the Pakistani society is still struggling to find its way out of the strictly clichéd gender roles one is bound to play.
