Eight-year-old killed by speeding bus in Karachi

Accident took place near Baloch Hotel in Gharibabad

KARACHI: An eight-year-old girl was crushed to death by a bus on Monday in yet another traffic accident in the metropolis. The police impounded the bus and arrested its conductor but the driver responsible for the accident managed to escape.

The accident took place near Baloch Hotel in Gharibabad within the limits of the Sharifabad police station. The deceased was identified as Laiba, daughter of Sharafat Ali. Police officials and witnesses said the accident took place when a speedy passenger bus of route W-22 hit her, killing her instantly.

SHO Akram Arain said the victim and her family members were on their way in a Suzuki pickup from their residence in Orangi Town. He added that the Suzuki driver stopped the vehicle near Baloch Hotel for some work when the minor girl got off and was killed by the speeding bus.

Two killed in road accidents

The officer said the bus driver managed to escape the scene. However, the police immediately reached the site, impounded the bus and arrested its conductor.

The victim's uncle Liaquat Khan told the media that the bus was in speed due to which the driver could not control it. He demanded that the traffic police implement the traffic laws.

The police have registered a case and further investigations are under way.
