Members of the Pakistan Pharmacist Association gathered outside the National Press Club (NPC) on Tuesday to press for higher salaries and better perks.
They walked from the NPC to the Parliament House, demanding the same pay structure and facilities as doctors, after their revised service structure.
New doctors start their jobs from grade 9, while pharmacists are kept at a lower pay scale starting from grade 7.
They said there is no difference between the qualification of a doctor and a pharmacist.
A pharmacist gets a degree of Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) after 17 years of education, which includes primary and secondary education, followed by five years of professional education.
Therefore they should be treated in a similar way.
Officials of the Ministry of Health including drug inspectors were present during the protest.
