World earth day: Speakers call for collective efforts to save environment

Speakers at a seminar called for making collective efforts and mobilising resources to deal with degradation.

RAWALPINDI: Speakers here at a seminar held in connection with the International Earth Day called for making collective efforts and mobilizing resources to deal with environmental degradation.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Azra Yasmin, Chairperson Department of Environmental Sciences of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), said that the university has always encouraged activities that contribute towards the betterment of environment.

Kalpana Murty, Environmental Health Sciences Officer at the US Embassy, said that environmental changes by natural disasters can be overcome by the collective efforts of government and non-governmental organizations.

“We should mobilize resources to deal with environmental changes. Natural environment is a blessing of God and we should value it.”

Afshan Ameer, Director Information, Research and Communication (IRC), apprised the students about the working of IRC and what it was doing to find solutions to various environmental hazards.
