Umar Waqas, the owner of Umar and Co, had allegedly supplied substandard equipment for the science lab, stationery items, and uniforms at exorbitant rates under the name of fake firms and without adopting genuine bidding process.
The entire process was conducted in violation of PPRA rules.

As per an inquiry conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), millions of rupees were paid to Asghar Awan and Manzoor Ghauri who represented five fake and unregistered companies including Umar & Co, Ashraf Enterprises, Monica Supply Agency, Maxico Supply Agency and Ashraf Uniform Center.
They charged Rs300 million for supplying sub-standard generators, vacuum cleaners, electrical equipment, and uniforms.
Tariq Awan, the secretary of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Worker Welfare Board, was the main culprit of this mega scam and has already been arrested by NAB’s provincial bureau.
The suspects are expected to be produced before an accountability court in Peshawar to obtain their physical remand.
