City wears festive look on Eid Miladun Nabi

LAHORE: The preparations to celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi, the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reached their climax in the provincial capital on Thursday, a day before the auspicious occasion.

The provincial government has already cancelled public holidays of all the local government institutions across Punjab. All the mosques, shrines as well as public and private buildings have been illuminated and there is special décor is on main city roads, especially model roads of the metropolis like Canal Road, Mall Road, Jail Road and Gulberg Main Boulevard.



The government and religious organisations have planned a series of events including Mehafil-e-Milad, seminars, conferences, Quran and naat recitation and essay writing competitions to highlight the life of the Holy Prophet.

Special prayers will be offered in mosques to spread the message and his teachings.

Different religious parties, including Pakistan Awami Tahreek (PAT) and Jamat-e-Islami (JI), have also displayed banners related to Eid Miladun Nabi everywhere in the city.

In the wake of the government’s recent attempt to amend finality of prophethood related clauses from declaration form of electoral candidates, the PAT is holding Tajdar-e-Khatm-e-Nubuwwat Conference at Minar-e-Pakistan.

Huge crowds were witnessed at major city markets, especially makeshift stalls which were selling Eid Miladun Nabi related articles such as flags, buntings, badges, caps and dozens of other decoration items. Citizens were seen decorating their houses and streets with colourful lights, glittering tapes, buntings and banners while youngsters remained busy in building different models outside their houses.



A few of them have also made huge models of Khana Kaba and Masjid-e-Nabwi which would be put on display to mark the birthday of the prophet. A young boy, Rahim Buksh, said he along with his friend collected funds from various houses in the neighbourhood to organise a Mehfi-e-Milad event.

“We have already decorated our street with colourful lights and glittering ribbons. We have also placed our order to a local catering company for biryani which will be distributed among the participants of Mehfi-e-Milad,” he remarked.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, a local bakery salesman, Naveed, said he received dozens of special cakes orders for the occasion.
