ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication’s initiative to reduce Unaccounted-for-Gas (UFG) losses through “Energy Watch; Preventing Pilferage, Saving Cost” project would benefit natural gas consumers, Project Manager Gul Muhammad said on Wednesday. Talking to APP, he said the project’s purpose is to address systemic anomalies to reduce UFG losses to 1-2%, in line with the global average and to save billions of rupees of national exchequer. “We have developed a sensor-based network for real time monitoring and data acquisition of gas distribution network, for possible malicious activities and theft detection,” he said, adding that sensors are initially tested and ready to install in the field and experiments are being undertaken for an underground network of pipelines to detect the leakage and save precious energy resources.
