Two women and as many children were killed and a man suffered serious injuries when a gas cylinder exploded at their home in Punjab’s Bhakkar district on Tuesday.

Police said the walls and roof of the house caved in because of the intensity of the explosion in Mohammad Ali Pur Bhattian neighboourhood of Bhakkar’s Kallur Kot tehsil, Express News reported.

Initial police probe suggests that the gas cylinder exploded when a meal was being prepared in the kitchen.

Akbar, the owner of the house was seriously injured. His wife Khadija, 28, sister-in-law Saima, 20, and two children - three and five years of age - were killed.

Akbar and the bodies were taken to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Kallur Kot.
