Coalition politics: PPP, PML-Q closer to formalising alliance

ISLAMABAD:

The PPP and the PML-Q are inching closer to a power sharing formula to build the foundation of a ‘deep-rooted’ political alliance.

Sources privy to the developments said that the top leadership of both parties have reached an agreement, which is likely to be put in place over the next several days.

The two parties will create a coordination committee, to manage their alliance, and the PML-Q’s Mushahid Hussain is expected to play a key role in that body.Sources said the PML-Q has asked for key cabinet slots, including the water and power ministry so that its governing performance can enhance its political profile.

Party leader Pervez Elahi will not be a part of the new cabinet, though Amir Muqam, Ghaus Bux Mehar, Jam Yousaf and Wajahat Hussain are expected to get ministerial posts.
