QUETTA: Customs authorities on Saturday seized smuggled goods from the passenger coaches bringing pilgrims from Iran to Quetta.

Officials said they had checked eight coaches that reached Quetta on Friday and found smuggled goods loaded in them.

“We have impounded the eight coaches carrying smuggled goods,” Collector Customs Quetta Ashraf Ali said, adding that the smuggled goods recovered from the coaches included spare auto parts, Iranian carpets, plastic goods, shampoos, tyres and edible items worth millions of rupees.

Ali said the raid was carried out on receipt of information about the presence of contraband on the vehicles.

Meanwhile, Customs authorities, along with FC officials, also recovered foreign goods from a Chaman train coming to Quetta.

Separately, the authorities also recovered hundreds of mobile phones from a vehicle coming from border areas at the Baleli Custom check post.
