Tracking down the sale will help the authorities with formulation of taxation and regulatory policies
KARACHI: The much-acclaimed ‘Black/Blessed Friday’ created enough of a frenzy among the public as numerous fashion houses and retail stores offered discounts on a range of products. Leaving it to consumers’ discretion to decide how authentic the ‘reduced’ prices are, businesses have certainly made enough profits to cover up for any losses incurred during the whole year.
Nonetheless, it would be economically helpful if the government devises a strategy to record and track the scale of the business done during the day, rather than focusing on the premise of the event and its religious and anti-religious connotations. The government should also realise that in a multi-religious society, submission to the demands of one group would be unfair for others. In fact, tracking down the sale will help the authorities with formulation of taxation and regulatory policies.
