New Delhi wants security guarantees from Islamabad for the wife of self-confessed Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav wife before reaches Pakistan to meet him, said a Times of India report.
India wants Kulbhushan Jadhav to be allowed to meet his mother too
The Narendra Modi-led Indian government is not ready to send just the wife of Jadhav who is on the death row in Pakistan and also want his mother to accompany his wife.
“We have conveyed that the wife of Jadhav would like to travel along with her mother-in-law for the meeting. We have sought [a] sovereign guarantee from the government of Pakistan to ensure the safety, security and well-being of the wife and the mother of Jadhav and that they shall not be questioned, harassed or interrogated during their stay in Pakistan,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.
Kumar said, “We [Indian government] have further asked that a diplomat of the Indian high commission in Islamabad be allowed to accompany them at all times, including during the meeting."
The report said, Jadhav's mother had also applied for a visa to see him.
Pakistan allows wife to meet Jadhav on ‘humanitarian grounds’
Earlier this month, Pakistan granted permission to Jadhav to meet his wife, months after a request was made by India’s Ministry of External Affairs. However, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Dr Muhammad Faisal on Thursday also confirmed receiving a new Indian request of sending Jadhav’s mother with his wife and said it was "being considered".
