PFA discards 2,524 kanals of vegetables

'Sewerage, industrial waste and other poisonous water was being used for the cultivation of vegetables'

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) continued a crackdown against untreated wastewater irrigated vegetables crops and discarded 2,524 kanal of vegetable crops in 27 districts of the province. According to a PFA spokesman, food safety teams under the supervision of PFA DG Noorul Amin Mengal raided vegetables fields across Punjab and discarded 630 kanal vegetables. Sewerage, industrial waste and other poisonous water was being used for the cultivation of vegetables, he added. Mengal informed the media that after mapping, PFA had put fields of poisonous water in red zones and banned the growing of vegetables in these fields.
