Pakistan, EU discuss non-proliferation, peaceful use of nuclear arms

Regional and global security situation also discussed during the third round of Pakistan-EU dialogue on nuclear energy

Pakistan and the European Union (EU) discussed an entire range of issues related to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in Islamabad on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, matters pertaining to the regional and global security situation also came under discussion during the third round of Pakistan-EU dialogue on disarmament, non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Special Secretary (UN&EC) Ambassador Tasnim Aslam led the Pakistani side while the EU delegation was headed by Ambassador Jacek Bylica, special envoy for disarmament and non-proliferation at the European External Action Service.

“The entire range of issues related to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation as well as matters pertaining to the regional and global security situation came under discussion,” read the statement.

The dialogue is part of the Pakistan-EU engagement plan and provides both sides with a useful platform for exchange of views and perspectives in this important area, it added.
