According to Daily Mail, Melissa was 18 and Nick was 22 at the alleged time of assault. Melissa mentioned that their record labels had set up a call for them because they thought the pair should date, however, she was already dating someone at the time.

Melissa added that the Larger Than Life singer had invited her and a friend over for a "casual hangout" where they had a few drinks. He then invited her in to his recording studio to listen to some new music he had made. Later, he took her to the bathroom where he started to undress her while she pleaded him to stop.

Melissa wrote on her blog, "He was stronger and much bigger than me, and there was no way I would be able to open that door or have anyone help me. My friend couldn’t help me, I didn’t even know where she was. I thought that the only way to get out was to get him to finish what he had started." She also disclosed that he then took her to his bedroom and forced himself on her.

Melissa also claimed that after the incident, Nick kept calling her but she refused to pick up his calls, after which he sent her a "nasty, angry" message and stopped calling.

She further stated that she was glad it was over. Later, she signed a deal with Nick's manager, Kenneth Crear, whose strong hold in the industry would help her establish her career. She soon found out that Nick and Kenneth were best friends and that Kenneth had set up a duet with her abuser. However, Nick had already recorded his part so Melissa recorded hers separately too.

Melissa added that she hadn't told her friend about the incident but had informed her then manager, who warned her that Nick has a powerful legal team and saying something would only ruin her career. The Reality singer eventually lost interest in pursuing a career in music.

"I was broken. I was tired. I was traumatised. I told my therapist. I told my family. I told my friends. I have a plethora of people who can attest that I eventually became open vocal about my experience, I’ve just never had the platform to come out publicly," stated Melissa.

Backstreet's back, alright!

Her family tried to convince her to speak up in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein controversies but she only came forward after hearing that Nick was also accused of assaulting a fan in 2006.

"I feel I have an obligation now to come forward with the hope and intention to inspire and encourage other victims to tell their story. We are stronger in numbers. If you are reading this and you have been assaulted, know you don’t have to be silent and you are not alone. I know it’s scary. I’m scared. I believe you. I stand with you and together I hope we can bring light to things that have been lost in the darkness for so long," penned Melissa.
