IS in Pakistan

Islamabad police even after seeking help from the Counter-Terrorism Department has not made any significant progress

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police even after seeking help from the Counter-Terrorism Department have not made any significant progress to track down the killers of the sanitation workers in the federal capital a couple of weeks ago. However, now the police, probably in a bid to add fuel to the fire or in an attempt to buy more time, have hinted at the possibility of the killers being members of the terror-wreaking militant outfit the Islamic State.

A police official investigating the case stated that the militant organisation has been involved in spreading terrorism in the country. This statement comes as a massive shock, especially when the government officials have always denied the IS’s presence in the country, in any capacity or form. The contradiction over the matter between the government and the police force is either due to a lack of coordination among the two over such a sensitive issue or is because of the government’s denial in an attempt to hide its own incompetence, and to not invite political backlash domestically and internationally by admitting to IS presence in the country.
