ISLAMABAD: The news of a father drowning his two daughters because of his poverty as he has three others to feed, is heart breaking. Coming from a comparatively privileged household, one cannot even fathom what would be going in a father’s mind who becomes so helpless to drown his own children. But as heart-wrenching as it is, it is not the first time such a news has surfaced in the media. Many such cases had been reported in the past as well. Yet the government remains unmoved. Politicians only promise to work for the uplift and welfare of the poor, and their promises never materialise into reality. The privileged class also fail to put pressure on politicians simply because those unfortunate children weren’t part of our family and hence not our problem.
