Rising problem of AMR: Call to curb irrational use of antibiotics

Health experts Saturday terming the anti-microbial resistance (AMR) containment as major health issue, called for curbing irrational use of antibiotics. They were addressing an awareness seminar on AMR here organised by Shifa International Hospital, on the occasion of ‘World Antibiotic Awareness Week’ being observed in Pakistan from November 13 to 19. They said Pakistan was also witnessing the rising problem of the AMR mainly due to inappropriate use with associated higher morbidity, mortality and costs. At the 68th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva in May 2015, the delegates endorsed a Global Action Plan to tackle AMR, they added.
