At the launch of the show, when asked if he had plans to bring back Kajol, who he recently patched up with, Karan said: "Kajol is and will remain as a special part of my life."
For about two decades, the bond between Kajol and Karan remained as strong as a rock, but their friendship hit a rocky patch after an altercation between Kajol’s husband Ajay Devgn and the famed director.
Kajol, Karan Johar no longer best of friends, Ajay Devgn reveals
“I am not friends with him (Karan). Even Kajol’s equation is not as warm as it was. It is a personal issue… not due to any professional thing. It’s a personal hurtful feeling,” Ajay said previously.
Karan had earlier mentioned that he does not have a relationship with Kajol anymore. He said, "The problem was actually never between her and me. It was between her husband and me. I don’t really want to say what transpired. I felt that if she’s not going to acknowledge twenty-five years of friendship, if she wants to support her husband, then that’s her prerogative. But I just couldn’t see myself in her life any more. It’s been months we haven’t spoken to each other."
Kajol rules out working with Karan Johar on future projects
Back then, Kajol was also quick to speak her mind and stated that she would never work with Karan again. The star was known to make a cameo in all of Karan's films. She explained, "If you’re not comfortable with the people you’re working with, if you cannot speak up, or speak to the people you’re working with… You can’t work alongside them."
However, later there were speculations that the two of them might have worked things out. Kajol invited the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director to her birthday bash and 'liked' a photo of his children on Instagram. Karan in-turn started ‘following’ Kajol giving confirmation to the rumours of their patch-up.
"Kajol is definitely part of Karan’s next venture. He had sworn to himself at the beginning of his career that she would be a part of all his films. That promise was broken in last year’s Diwali release, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. But Kajol is back in Karan’s life and in his next directorial undertaking," said a source close to Karan.
Karan’s next project will have his all-time favourites Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol come together again after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and My Name Is Khan. Considering how Karan since day one has always claimed that Kajol is his lucky mascot, the fallout between the two friends was dismal to say the least. So we couldn’t be happier that they’re burying the hatchet.
