PESHAWAR: A transgender person, whose body had been found dumped in a Peshawar canal last month, was allegedly killed by a jilted ‘lover’. The mystery behind the murder was finally solved after the Mathra police arrested the suspected murderer. Police said that they had arrested Farhan, a resident of Masho Gagar who was hiding in Gulbahar area of the city.  He is suspected of murdering Nawabzada, who went by the transgender alias Hajira. Hajira’s body had been found slaughtered in Ashiqabad area of Mathra on October 21.  “The suspect told us during interrogation that he liked Hjira,” a police official said. “Farhan said he spent thousands on Hajira, but later the transgender refused to be his friend which angered Farhan and he slaughtered her with a knife and later threw the knife in a canal in Gulbahar,” the police official added. It is worth noting that over 50 people who are transgender have been killed across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa since 2015.
