PML-N gears up for elections

LAHORE: To start afresh with setting its record straight for the next election, the PML-N has decided to opt for a more poised and calm response in the case of 'harsh' decisions by the judiciary in the corruption cases it is facing. The party at its recent meeting devised a strategy for the next election, leaving the discretionary powers with Nawaz Sharif to select a candidate for the premiership though he’ll conduct the election campaign himself.

Maryam takes a jibe at ‘establishment’ after MQM-P, PSP fiasco

Reports on the party meeting held on Nov 12th do not mention the former PM’s daughter who over the past year has informally taken the central position in the conduct of party affairs. This certainly depicts a slight shift in the strategy the party has adopted so far, as now it is likely to file appeals against the court decisions through its lawyers but refrain from giving hostile remarks against the judges.

If the party follows the same course of action, it is likely that it will be able to fill in the hierarchical cracks among the senior party leadership and win over its estranged members back into the party fold. Though the new strategy would not entirely make up for the damage caused to the reputation of the party by the Panama Papers and ongoing corruption cases, it would consolidate and reunite a bickering political group.
