The first phase of the new operation began in the Nazimabad area and authorities said that they have so far shut down eight illegal water hydrants in the area.
Sources said that at least seven million gallons of water was being stolen from these connections.
Farid said that strict action will be taken against those involved in water theft. On the other hand, water board sources said the authorities and police aided such criminals.
They say stealing water is a bail-able offence, which means those arrested can get out within hours.
