Smog blankets Punjab

A major cause of the smog are the power plants operating on the outskirts of Lahore

LAHORE: The country and the Punjab region in particular is experiencing dense smog which is likely to be washed away by rainfall predicted during the coming week. Besides the natural remedy the government is waiting for to deal with the smog and its likely consequences, it should take measures on its own too.

A major cause of the smog are the power plants operating on the outskirts of Lahore, alongside which many also regard the cutting of trees and green belts for the Metro bus routes another major cause of the problem. But the provincial government is still slumbering by not giving its planning and designs for such projects a second thought.

Considering that the thick smog has made the air hard to breathe in for people in Delhi, India, it is imperative that the Punjab government in Pakistan takes urgent measures to deal with the situation. The action taken now will likely deliver the results in the next few months which are going to be a peak time of the winter season.
