Technical fault leaves central Punjab out of electricity

LAHORE: Electricity was suspended to various cities of central Punjab including Lahore on Sunday after all feeders of Kalashah Kaku Grid station tripped due to a technical fault.

Kalashah Kaku grid station supplies electricity to Lahore, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala and other districts of the province where duration of unannounced loadshedding has increased due to reduction in power generation.

In Lahore's Township area, locals held a protest demonstration and burnt tires against prolonged loadshedding.

Sources said that Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) is controlling the grid stations as well as the loadshedding duration directly from Islamabad.

Director General PEPCO Mohammad Khalid said that the power generation reduced due to poor supply of furnace oil to grid stations.
