MQM-P and PSP alliance

On Nov 8th, in a rather hasty manner the MQM-P and the PSP announced their alliance

KARACHI: On Nov 8th, in a rather hasty manner the MQM-P and the PSP announced their alliance and plans for contesting the next elections as one single party. The PSP which is a dissection of disgruntled of the MQM’s current and former members has now shook hands with the MQM-P on the pretext of it not being Altaf Hussain’s party anymore. If rumours are to be believed, this political alliance was likely to be led by former president Pervez Musharraf, who in this way will be able to secure a few more seats for his own party too.

Although many members from the MQM-P express discontent over the alliance, the PSP workers seemed to be more welcoming of the move. The question that arises is of the ability of the MQM-P being able to function as an independent political party, which is not under the influence of its former head in any capacity. If that happens to be the next political arrangement in Sindh, what would be the future of the MQM-London. Whether there is another grand alliance on the cards of the MQM-P, the PSP and the MQM-London will only be unfolded with time.
