Remembering Dina

Letter November 09, 2017
Reading the piece showed why a very British-educated leader would perhaps not be sentimental on issues

NEW YORK, USA: I have read several articles on Dina Wadia but Akbar Ahmad’s article published on Nov 7th and 8th titled ‘Remembering Dina’ in this paper is personal, moving and factually informative. I really got to see a glimpse of Jinnah whom the Bangladeshis have held culpable for trying to deny them the right to make their mother tongue as the national language. But reading the piece made me see why a very British-educated leader would perhaps not be sentimental about these issues. It also highlights the father-daughter relationship in a different light. The two sides have been beautifully articulated: Jinnah’s political image that he was the creator of a homeland for Muslims and his affection for his only child who was the product of his liberal secular upbringing.
