Nasir Iqbal clinched the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Squash Championship after he defeated Yasir Butt 3-1 in the final yesterday.
Despite losing the first set 11-5, the 16-year-old wrapped up the match in just 47 minutes. Coming back strongly to level the match 1-1 by winning the second set 11-7, Iqbal took the following two sets 11-5 and 11-8 to lift the trophy and take home Rs500,000. This is the second time Iqbal has defeated Yasir in a national tournament after having won in the Pakistan International Squash Circuit 1 Championship last month.
“Iqbal is very young and I can only say that it is good to find new players who can give tough competition to us,” Yasir told The Express Tribune.
