LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif landed back in Lahore on Sunday after spending a week in London where in addition to visiting ailing sister-in-law Kulsoom Nawaz, he also met deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif in a ‘patch-up’ move.

The top leadership of the PML-N had met in the British capital for a key consultative meeting to chalk out a future course of action -- both for the party and the government on some key constitutional and political issues.

According to PML-N sources, the chief minister held one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in London, participated in a high-level party meeting presided over by Sharif, underwent some health check-ups and met with overseas Pakistanis and party delegations.

Meanwhile, the Punjab chief minister said the PML-N would emerge victorious in the next general elections due to its service delivery, hard work and honesty to vote.

“The PML-N government has led the country on the road to development as the priority of the party has always been public service and prosperity of the country,” Shehbaz said while talking to a PML-N delegation after his return from London.

“The PML-N has always been through the positive and democratic interest-based politics,” the chief minister said, adding, “Current financial development has also been acknowledged by international organisations and if the current policies are allowed to continue in the future, Pakistan will soon emerge as an economic power in the region.”

Shehbaz said: “The PML-N will approach people on the basis of their performance and service delivery in the 2018 elections and will emerge successful Insha’Allah.”

The chief minister hoped that the politics of hard work, honesty, loyalty and public service would be victorious in the 2018 elections.

“Moreover, every time the PML-N comes into power, a new era of development and prosperity dawns on the country, as our party has served people with selfless devotion and will continue with the same zeal,” the chief minister said, adding, “The PML-N is still the most popular party in the country.”

He said people had rejected negative politics of selfish elements “as public is now astute enough to figure out vested, despicable interests of those involved in the politics of lie and impeachment”.

“People will bring those elements who are halting the voyage of progress for their own interests, to their logical conclusions in the upcoming elections,” he anticipated.

The chief minister said the PML-N had made a commitment with the people that it would strive for their development and prosperity, “so the politics of lies and baseless allegations can’t stop us from serving humanity”.

“The PML-N has always preferred national interests over personal interests and will continue this trend.”

The chief minister said the PML-N government had earmarked billions of rupees for revolutionary programmes to raise the living standard of people.
