The corps commanders’ conference presided over by Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa took stock of the recent development, including the visit of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Pakistan.
A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the forum took review of geo-strategic security environment with special focus on recent interactions with Afghanistan and US authorities.
Tillerson visited Islamabad on October 24 and held talks with the country’s civil and military authorities.
Testifying before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee following his visit to the region that took him to India and Afghanistan as well, the secretary of state said the Trump administration would give Pakistan a chance to eliminate alleged terrorist sanctuaries.
Pakistan and the US are reportedly working on a new mechanism to enhance their cooperation to deal with the threat posed by terrorist groups.

The corps commanders also reviewed the internal security situation in their huddle at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
“Internal security situation, progress of the ongoing counterterrorism operations and its projection to achieve enduring peace and stability is also discussed,” the military’s media wing added.
The top brass concluded that “the security apparatus shall continue to perform its role in line with the national interests”.
Speaking on the occasion, the army chief said while operational gains were being consolidated through support to the government for development programme in the socioeconomic domain, “there will be enhanced focus on similar socioeconomic development effort in Balochistan”.
“The forum also deliberated upon various internal functions and professional aspects, including special welfare measures for the families of Shahuada,” according to the ISPR.
