Electricity from India

Letter April 22, 2011
Pakistan should not pay more than two cents a unit for electricity from India.

KARACHI: This refers to a news item in your paper about India offering to sell electricity to Pakistan. In the 1990s, Nawaz Sharif’s government offered electricity to India. India said it would buy it at two cents per unit, although our government was buying it for 6.50 cents per unit from independent power producers. Pakistan should not pay more than two cents a unit for electricity from India, which is produced for 1.50 cents per unit from coal-fired plants.
